Madera Center Child Development Department is designed to provide courses which lead toward an Associate Degree and/or Certificate in Child Development. The program offers the opportunity for coursework, practicum and lab placement, and work experience. It emphasizes curriculum planning and development for children from infancy through school age, health and safety, introduction to child development, diversity, observation and assessment, teaching practice, community resources, current issues in the field, family child care, early intervention, elementary education, administration of child development programs and professional growth.
The department philosophy is based upon these beliefs for children:
The Child Development Center is an integral part of the Child Development Department of Madera Center. The center provides an ongoing and professionally updated resource and laboratory setting for Madera Community College students to receive professional training and observe children in a quality program. The Center serves children ages 3 to 5 years. The Center is a place for children to grow, learn, play, and explore and for parents to gain support in facing the realities of child rearing in a complex world.
This program prepares students for careers as preschool teachers, infant care providers, toddler teachers, family child care providers, child care program administrators and directors, teacher aides in elementary school classrooms or teacher aides in working with children with special needs.
Early Education Teachers / Child Care Providers are always in demand. The need for educated, experienced teachers and providers will continue to grow each year.
