What is CalWORKs?

The California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids program at Madera Community College Center is designed to help recipients of cash aid get through college in a short amount of time, with special services that make it easy.  If you receive cash aid from a county welfare department, have children, and are enrolled in college or want to sign up for college, you can participate in CalWORKs at Reedley College or at Clovis, Madera or Oakhurst Centers.

If you attend Madera Community College Center while receiving aid, you may be eligible for:
  • Financial Aid
  • Transportation Funding
  • Work Study
  • Textbooks
  • Child Care Assistance
  • Job Training Programs
  • Career, Academic and Personal Counseling
  • Job Placement

We can help you with child care

Finally, you can go to school and not worry about child care.  While you attend classes and educational activities, you may be able to leave your infant or toddler on campus with the Madera Community College Center Child Care Program.  You'll get priority acceptance for enrollment.

We can help you put extra money in your pocket

Our Work Study program will help you find a job on campus.  You'll gain valuable job skills and get a paycheck in addition to your regular cash aid grant.  This is a great way to make extra money while you're on aid.  The Work Study program is designed to help you earn money, gain job skills, and prepare you for employment when you're finished with school.  You may also be eligible for additional cash grants through financial aid.
